Automatic Z Adjustment
Zero Point of Workpiece Quickly Calibrated

vhf has developed a handy helper with which the time-consuming calibration of the z zero point on engraving and milling machines becomes redundant. This new adjustment unit can be used to calibrate the zero point within seconds at highest accuracy. Especially when it is often the case that workpieces with different thickness have to be processed, this saving of time pays off quickly.

Before starting to process a workpiece, its surface has to be scratched usually a little bit with the tip of the tool to define the zero point in z direction. Starting from this point, all cutting depths that have been set in the software for engravings, millings etc. will be accessed. However, scratching the workpiece surface manually is a time-consuming process as it is recommended to approach the surface only slowly to ensure that both, workpiece and tool, won't get damaged.

his new z adjustment unit which can be used with the controller CNC 750 makes this process safer and much quicker. The z axis will be lowered automatically and stops immediately after the surface of the unit has been touched. This method takes advantage of the electric conductivity of the material. As soon as the tip of the tool touches the metallic surface of the adjustment unit, a circuit will be closed and the z axis stops immediately. The thickness of the adjustment unit itself will be taken into account automatically. All in all, the operator can profit from this unit in three ways: the calibration process passes off much quicker and much more precise and the surface will not get touched or damaged.
